The best thing I ever heard about Elizabeth Taylor is that she kept Burton's final love letter, which she received after attending his funeral and in which he said he wanted to come home to her, in a drawer in her bedside table. And that, in old age, she listened to the blind tenor, Andrea Bocelli.

Unlike today's stylist-dressed stars, Taylor did not wear borrowed jewelry to the 1970 Oscars. She wore the 69-carat diamond Burton had bought for her at Sotheby's and a dress designed to flatter her not off the far-away French runway, but from the Hollywood costumer Edith Head. It is an excellent dress.
