And, per Osama's fondest dream, did al-Qaeda/9-11 cause the world wide recession? This reviewer of Dead Cities says Richard [Wild England] Jeffries was on to post-apocalyptic capitalism back in 1898; I think this is what Dickens, Woolf, and the other novelists I can still read are all onto. Badgers running the abandoned streets. The Wire, too, about back channel economies. Franzen and the rest of the clux are just getting there, and foolishly too.
