The answer, or at least *an* answer, seems to be that BBC iPlayer is available for iPod and iPad.
Otherwise, it's kind of sketchy and difficult, from what I can gather from what those geekier than I are saying about it on various forums. BBC is protective of its copyrights and licensing, and as I understand it, that's part of why their streaming feed is compatible with very little that is not their player.
The only digital satellite radio providers who offer it are UK-only.
BBC podcasts, of which there are thousands, can be listened to on any MP3-playing device, if that helps at all.
