This place is feeling really stagnant. The only comments I'm getting are on the train wreck posts. I have de-friended at least one ghoul in the past for such behavior.

Still, I didn't start this for the jollies. I did it for the daily writing. Whether or not anybody reads it.

Maybe I should start writing again. What a concept.

I feel the same way - I'm worried that folks (at least non-Russian folks, and regrettably I don't understand Cyrillic) are departing LJ for warmer online climes. At the same time, though, the discipline of writing something every day, even if it is a trivial comment on my day or a quote from a favorite author, has really helped. And, ultimately, I like the attitude of the Syrian Christian poet who in the fifth or sixth century went to live in a cave. When his brother asked him what was the point of writing poetry with no audience, the poet said, "God is my audience."

Oh, I'm still here and reading, and will try to comment more. (many people have been posting similar posts... including me, lol!)

I'm glad you're still here and documenting. I do mean to come back; it's not FB but work that is eating my creativity and energy to self-therapize. Though I do have some FB and twitter activity, more than here.

I would love to see you collect your essays on fashion, hierarchy, even genocide - the commentary on public life, basically - in a slim Barthes Mythologies-type volume. The inset picture style is very Barthian.

That's me, as well. I'm just swamped with work. I think of FB and LJ as completely different environments and use them very differently. Right now, I have (barely) time to read other people's LJs, but no real time to write in my own, or usually to reply.

A gift for you, to remind you that you are not at all alone in your thoughts on labor: see the vid embedded here.

I'm here, just takes me ages lately to get through posts (stroke being the fun that it is) and ye olde speak n spell is not so reliable for getting my words into text. Am reading though.

Stagnant is the right word for it, yes. The diversity of posters in my daily friends list seems to have fallen quite a bit in recent months. There are about a dozen who still post regularly, but out of a friends list of 75+.

It's just dead lately and not getting any better. I think everyone departed en masse for Facebook.

Facebook is not a substitute. LJ is for people who don't have anyone looking over their shoulder during the day and/or who have a machine at home.

I still read! I'm just not posting much these days and commenting even less because I'm busy with preparing for my move.
